Requirements

All Montgomery County high school students must complete the list below to try out for and play on high school sports teams.

  • Academic Eligibility - you must maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average, and this may not include more than one "E". Incoming freshmen have no minimum GPA requirement for the first marking period. However, after the first marking period this applies. Keep an eye on this requirement! If your GPA slips under the minimum - or you have too many E's - at the end of the marking period, you will not be able to play - even if it is in the middle of your season.
  • Pay your Extra Curricular Activity Fee - this is a once-yearly county fee to help fund the cost of extra-curricular activities, and everyone that participates on a team has to do this. There are provisions for students needing to pay reduced ECA fees. See the form for the rules on this. Find the form HERE.
  • Yearly Physical Exam - yea, you gotta do it, and there is a Health Inventory form for both your parents and your doctor to fill out. Find it HERE. If you have had a physical recently, you may not have to do it again, you could just have the doctor fill out and sign the form.
  • Medical Card - this is different than the Health Inventory. This is a short form that lists emergency information. Find it HERE.
  • Parental Permission Form - Have your folks fill this out. Find the county document HERE.
  • Transportation Permission Form - another one for the folks to fill out. Find it HERE.

You can also find all these forms by going to the Documents page on this website. Hardcopy of any of these forms can be picked up in the RM main office or the athletic director's office. Your coach may have other forms and agreements for you to complete as well. This is individual to each coach or school athletic director.

What You Can Expect

Practices

You should expect to practice 5-6 days a week throughout the season. During the week, practices are after school; Saturday practices are usually in the morning. For Fall sports, football especially, there may be 2-a-day practices for the first week - be prepared for heat. You must be available at the beginning of tryouts - August 15.

Games

Games are usually played on weekday afternoons or evenings, with an occasional Saturday game. Generally, half of the games are "home" games and half are "away". The swim team holds its practices and contests in swim centers around the area. Depending on the team, travel distance, and game time, you must expect to miss all or part of the last two periods of the day on away game days. You are still responsible for school work from these periods AND for your grade point average requirements, so be aware.
